Following the release of ‘One Big Family, One Small School’ on our facebook page, the children entered their work into the National Fís Film Awards. Late last year the school was delighted to learn that they were nominated for an award. The 19th annual Fís Film Awards ceremony took place in the Helix in Dublin on February 12th. The children flew to Dublin from Kerry Airport to attend the ceremony. What began as a creative interest in the classroom of Ballyfinane really shows that small dreams can become true. One big family in one small school can truly get big things done. The children of Ballyfinane hit the high notes, got the beat right and mastered their rhyme in their very own Ballyfinane Studio in the summer of 2023. It was an amazing project full of music, composing, performance and laughter as the children tuned into their talents through their teamwork and creativity. They took over the school and turned it into a professional recording studio! The workshops took place over two days. The first day of the project saw the children compose their lyrics together and put them to a beat. On day two the school was transformed into a set for their video shoot. The video showcases the children in action at Ballyfinane NS and the local community of Ballyfinane. The sun shone down as the children set up for their shots and even got to take in the ‘upside man’ at The Shanty bar which as they sing lies at the crossroads in the middle of the Kingdom’.
