Aistear is a play curriculum framework which is taught in Ballyfinane N.S. It gives pupils enjoyable and challenging learning experiences, so that all children can grow and develop as competent and confident learners within loving relationships with others. Aistear describes the types of learning (dispositions, values and attitudes, skills, knowledge, and understanding) that are important for children in their early years, and offers ideas and suggestions as to how this learning might be nurtured.
The Play Methodology Aistear is taught throughout the school year and pupils cover many themes over the school year e.g. the dentist, the farm, the hairdresser, the post office to name a few. It gives pupils the opportunity to learn new vocabulary, develop their problem-solving skills, and work as part of a team as well as developing communication and play skills. It is a fabulous methodology to have in our school and both teachers and children are really enjoying and learning from the experience.
The following is a very useful information sheet that offers further information to parents.
